These infrastructure projects do not all have to be state-funded, but also can be locally funded.
West Side Freeway Addition - Will work to add to freeways on the westside (beaverton). On the map the red represent existing free ways. The blue with green numbers by them represent additions to the freeways. The pink represent existing highways that could be developed into something closer to freeways. The first new freeway, connects the sunset freeway to the i-5 passing between Hillsboro and Cornelius, before connecting with the I-5 just north of Wilsonville. The second and third new freeways would be built where current powerlines are installed connecting the sunset to the first new freeway. The pink highways include the Tulalitin Valley Highway, SW Farmington Rd, SW Scholls Ferry Rd, and the Pacific Highway. The main idea would be to turn these highways into something more like freeways, by eliminating lights, and adding overpasses over them, and entrances and exits onto them. Special bustops could possibly be added so buses can pull over on highways and pick people up. The Pacific Highway/barbur blvd and Beverton Hillsdaye Hwy would run all the way to the city wihtout lights, in order to create more competition with the I-5 and 26 by hopefully having faster routes during rush hour. Upon completion this area would have the highest freeway density in the United States.
Possibly a fourth freeway could be added to the west side- ,On this map the red one represents the 1st one on the previous map, the blue one represents the new 4th one. Although this would not necessarily need to be built for sometime, a plan can be drawn and zoning laws could protect the area dedicated to the future freeway.
San Jose Freeway Connection Example - This type of overpass could be used to connect freeways without any stoppage. This one in San Jose did with only 300 feet of space from freeway to intersection, about 800 feet from side to side.
Beverton Decongestion - Dowtown beaverton gets congested due to stop lights as well as because two main highways, Tualatin and Farmington coming together and sharing freeway entrances and exits, which causes traffic to back up. The main traffic is going towarrds the sunset and downtown portland, and coming from the sunset and downtown portland. Adding an extra exit to get people directly onto farmington, and an entrance getting the from farmington onto the freeway should help decrease decongestion as traffic lights will be green more frequently as there as less crosstraffic.
Hypothetical overpasses on pacfic hwy/barbur blvd - The represent overpasses with entrances and exits, the pink rpresent overpasses without. The green is just light that can be eliminated , all other lights are eliminated too. The blue lines represent where capitol highway, barbur blvd, and the i-5 intersect, here a double overpass would have to built to eliminate the lights. The orange represents areas between i-5 and the pacific hwy that would be difficult to access, these areas could possibly become storage areas or something, I put overpass access points to each section. Ideally if the barbur blvd had 3 lanes going south up until it reaches capitol hwy exit.
Westhills Sunset hwy - To decrease congestion on the sunset through the west hills the freeway could be turned into a double-decker. Lanes going west would go up a level. The number of the lanes on the treansfers would have to be increased, the orange represents transfer lanes going east.
New bridge over Sauvie's Island connecting I-5 to 30 and Cornelius pass rd- This could help increase the efficiency of the 30 route making it easier to use for spillover traffic from I-5 during rush hour. Having a bridge would decrease the route time, probably by 20 to 30 minutes due to eliminating the need to drive past Ranier. Efficiency could be further increased by increasing speed limits, and eliminating traffic lights on 30, possibly installing bridges over the highway in the industrial area of portland. This route will also directly connect to cornelius pass rd, which should be the most efficient route for northern vancouver to get to Hillsboro. esoecially when there is traffic.
Bridge over Columbia at 223rd - Should help decrease congestion on 205, increase speed of commute, especially once troutdale area to sandy area is developed.
Bridge over Columbia from 238th - A second option is to have a bridge at 238th, and burnside freeway connect by way of Hogan dr. The main benefit of this route is the bridge would be shorter, and possibly lower cost of construction.
Sandy and Happey Valley Freeway Development - The red represents priority freeway building. The blue represents possible other additions. Will work to install overpasses, entrances and exits on 26 and 212 and turn these into something closer to freeways. 223rd can be turned into a freeway that then goes over the columbia with new bridge. The goal will be to have no lights on 212 the whole way from the 205 to sandy, and no lights all the way to where burnside crosses stark on the 26. The 212 we will make 4 lanes the whole way. The blue are just other possible freeways to connect more people in.
New Train Route - Red represents current raild road, green represents the addition. In order for 223rd to connect to i-84 seemlesly a new train route may have to be installed which would not be to difficult. Right now around 181st the railroad goes under the freeway from the north side to the south side of freeway. With the new route it would stay on northside and connect to already existing railroad just north a few blocks, which it currently connects to further east on the line.
Vancouver freeway - Before development fills in a new freeway could be built.
Mcloughlin Decongestion - Mcloughlin backs up primarily because there are so many lights it runs into once it turns into MLK and Grand. The plans on the map below include building overpasses where there is red, this should be on 17th, holgate, and over grand connecting mlk to the free way entrance. The green represent lights that can be eliminated, pretty much all of them except where the bridges are and stark, taylor or salmon, and mill st.. Stephen st. can be made to be strictly for the trolley. The pink represent loop entrances onto grand from morrison bridge and Hawthorne Bridge going west. Lights crossing mlk and grand, except at the bridges can also be delayed extensively, especially during rush hour. The Orange represents where there are only two lanes, which could be turned into three lanes. Currently McLoughlin has three lanes but then bottle necks into two lanes after powell, before turning back into three and four lanes after division. McLoughlin south of Ellis also turns back into two lanes until umatilla st., expanding this to three lanes would also greatly help with decongestion. Eliminating bus only lanes on mlk and grande could help absorb traffic, possibly creating a 5th lane could help hold more traffic.
Mclouglhin Decongestion in Milwaukie - The red represent overpasses, the green represents lights that will be removed. The yellow reprsents the light that will remain on harrison.
Powell - To increase speed of powell, an over pass could be built where milwaukie cross powell in green, the pink represents where lights could be eliminated.
Milwaukie Expressway - The "red" represent overpasses with entrances and exits, the "blue" overpass without, the "green" lights that can be eliminated.
Eliminating intersections where 224/milwaukie expressway cross i-205 and 82nd - The red repsent entrances and exits that would eliminated, two these are entraances onto 82nd going north that are unecessary, one is an exit from 82nd onto the Milwaukie Expressway. The blue represent new entrances, exits, and streets. The green dots represent intersections being eliminated. This should make it so there is no traffic on the 224 as it crosses i-205 and 82nd, as well as eliminate traffic as it connects to and from the 224.
212 to 224 transfer Clackamas - The green represents a new route for the 212 so it directly connects with 224. The red represents an exit from the 212 connecting it to the old 212 route. The orange is an over pass on the 212. This will make it so there is a direct more efficient route to the milwaukie expressway from the 212, creating a direct route from Sandy to Portland without lights.
Johnson Creek Blvd decongestion - The light blue represents stop signs or stop lights that could be removed. The red represents a right hand turnlane that could be added to move traffic onto johnson creek blue easier. The orange represents where a center lane possibly could be added to help utrning.
Expand I-5 to 3 lanes between the Fremont exit and moda center, definitely going south and possibly north as well.
4th lane on 84 west of 181st - There is generally a traffic jam west onf181st on 84, a 4th lane should help dcrease this. Exits and entrances at 148th nd 162nd could be uilt as well.
4th lane on 205 - South of powell there is only 3 lanes of freeway which leads to congestion. North of stark there is only three lanes which leads to congestion.
Downtown Burnside Decongestion - Eliminating lights can help increase the flow of traffic, the red represent lights eliminated. The green represents left turns when travelling from the east turning south. Creating left turns increases the flow of traffic for those going south vs. going around the block. It also increases traffic for those travelling west, for when cars have to go around the block traffic going east and west has to stop for cars to cross, where when there is a left hand turn only cars going east have to stop.
Burnside inner east decongestion- To eliminate decongestion on burnside all the stop lights between grande and 12th can be eliminated, represented in red. A turn from 12th going east on burnside can be added. Turn lanes going east and west can be added on sandy and stark. Possibly adding a third lane on couch beginning around 7th avenue going west, and eliminating the bus only lane around 13th goins west could absorb traffic and allow traffic to flow across mlk and grande more easily. Turning the bus only lane on burnside going east into a normal lane, and possibly even adding a 5th lane, could allow more traffic to pass over mlk and grande more quickly and increase traffic flow down mlk and grande as lights would have to be shorter.
Railroad Overpasses Inner east Portland - To eliminate jams caused by passing trains which can sometimes exceed 30 minutes, a few overpasses can be built
Highway Between Pendleton and Wallula Junction - Will help breakup traffic on the 395, as it passes through Kennewick, as drivers coming from Idaho and going to Idaho can take the new highway.
New Amtrak Trains - A new highspeed rail line would be quite expensive due to needing to destroy buildings to create space as well the general costs of construction. However new faster trains could be invested in that can use the current Amtrak line. On the eastcoast the Ascela amtrak train reaches speeds of 150 mph compared to the current Amtrak trains on the west coast that reach only 80. Possibly adding track in certain sections to make it easier for passenger trains to pass slower freight trains could help increase speed as well. Connecting existing tracks every mile and allowing trains to switch tracks to pass could be the most cost effective solution.
Commuter wes upgrades - Connecting the commuter wes in beaverton to the normal trimet light rail i believe to be possible. The main hold up is federal law, which restricts freight rail to trains with a certain weight. If these laws were lifted, or exceptions were made, the freight rail could be connected to the normal trimet light rail, and the red line could jump tracks and go all the way to Tualatin. The red line would also have to be diesel power as the normal trimet trains are power by electricity, but the freight train tracks do not have these capabilites.
Parks and Recreation
Casino for Chinook Indian Nation - I will work with the state government to authorize the construction and operation of a casino for the Chinook Indian Nation. Below are two maps of the planned area for a Chinook casino. The first map highlights the general area in red. This land is sparsely populated and flat and could become a fairly sizable city, possibly 300,000 people. The weather is also warmer then the coast by about 10 degrees, creating a tourist friendly environment. The plan will be to build a casino right on Jones Beach. This will bring in customers, and then other businesses can begin opening around it. I also plan on building a bridge connecting Oregon to Puget Island. There is already a bridge on the north side of the island connecting to Washington, while on the south side there is just a ferry. This will increase traffic flow to the area. In the second map the bridge is highlighted in blue, and the specific area I believe could be good for a casino in red.
Rooster Rock State Park Renovations - Rooster Rock will be turned into a family park. In the Orange a road will be added so the upper parking lot will have a road that goes down to the sand bar and out to the beaches. In the yellow parking will be added. In the blue soccer fields and baseball fields will be built that can have goals and backstops that are removeable for flood seasons. The purple area will be desgnated for gas stations and shopping. The red will be for play structures and basketball courts. The green will be an rv park. The white line represents the boat launch area, this area will be renovated and made deeper so boats have access in all seasons of the year.
Oxbow Parks - Oregon is home to some of the largest oxbows in the United States with some stretching multiple miles before returning within a few hundred feet of itself. Rivers like the Yamhill and the Little Deschutes have several small oxbows on them as well. What is beautiful about oxbows is that the river essentially goes in a circle which is great for rafters as they get out at the part of the river where it essentially reconnects. This means they do not need mutliples vehicles to raft, as the rivers come back itself.
Sprague River Oxbow - Located just north of Klamath Falls at 42.58, 121.56 degrees is an oxbow on the Sprague River that runs about 2 miles and has a crossing point of around 800 feet. This oxbow has the best weather of all the large oxbows. Parking can be put in where the river remeets, and possibly a road around the oxbow connecting people to campsites on the river.
Tualitin River Oxbow - Just east of scholls, closest one to portland of signficant size, about 1 mile long.
Siuslaw River Oxbow - Just east of Florence on the Siuslaw river there is an oxbow that runs around a mile long and has a cross point of 200 feet.
Siletz River Oxbow - Just East of Depoe Bay there is an oxbow on the Siletz river hat bruns around 3 miles long, with a cross point of arond 600 feet.
Siletz Reservation Oxbow - Siletz reservation is currently home to the largest publicly accessible oxbow in Oregon, running 3-4 miles long with a cross point of2000 feet, and parks on both sides of the crossing point.
Coastal Dunes - Just south of Bandon, there is a mini dune system right on the beach, with a small river that runs parallel to the coast line. I will build parking to increase access as represented by the blue area. A cement stage will also be installed on the beach so summer festivals can be held on the few warm days there are at the beach. Mini solar panels to charge batteries and provide power will be built into the stage.
Multnomah Falls Parking - Will install more parking at multnomah falls. New lots represented by the blue.
Warner Lakes Access - Warner lakes is a group of lakes in South Central Oregon. Warner lakes is made up of a dune system at the bottom of Hart Mountain, every spring melt the dunes fill with water from the mountain and create lakes full of mini islands, similar to Pothole Reservoir in Eastern Washington. I will build several parking lots creating access to the lakes.
Oneoneta Canyon - Clear debris in canyon, back log.
Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge - Will develop beachfront and turn to official state/city/county park. Much of the beach is covered with overgrowth and mosquito havens, this could be removed and developed a little more to be made more accessible. Actual roads could possibly be added. Good access to islands for kayakers.
Boardman Riverfront - Will develop the beach in front of the river lodge, removing rocks and brush and adding sand, as well as west towards sail board beach. The red area will become an official state/county/city park so you can see it on google maps and it will attract tourists, may add some more grass and picnic tables. Yellow area could be soccer fields. Retirement homes could possibly be added in vicinity as well, creating jobs and attracting elderly to region. Docks could be built so the Columbia River cruise ship can pick up elderly. Possibly create some zoning laws so area west of olson rd was dedicated to residential construction (with exceptions for restaurants), and areas east could be dedicated to industrial, this could help boost aesthetics of residential neighborhoods. More trees could potentially be added to eastern oregon cities in general as well to boost aesthetics.
Umatilla Roverfront - Will work on developing Umatilla's riverfront, making beach longer, adding parking on the west end. Possibly retirement homes could be built in here as well.
Spillway Park Mcnary Dam - Will work on further developing.
Columbia River Equestrian Center - The biggest exposed natural beach in Eastern Oregon on the Columbia, near Irrigon. Will work on making improvements, adding more parking, building an actual road, making it an official park on google maps. Campgrounds and rv parks could be added. Possibly a wing dam (orange) or two could be added to help decrease current and further build up sand bars and beaches.
Add Hotels to Ski Resorts - Most ski resorts in oregon don't have lodging, so you generally have to drive to get to the lodge and ski lift. Will work to add hotels right next to ski lifts, so people will be able to ski from hotel to lift. In the summer hiking could possibly be an activty that could bring tourists to the mountains and hotels.
New Ski Lift and Runs - The first pciture expands on mt. hood meadows and timberline. The second picture creates new ski resorts on the eastside of mt. hood. The third picture is a proposed new resort on mt. mclughlin in southern Oregon near medford and klamath. Will also work to decrease prices of tickets, by implementing new technology such as ai snow groomers, as well use more efficient business models, such as the ones at mt. ashland and anthony lakes, which operate at a 1/4 of the cost per acre relative to mt.hood.
Ski resort Wallowa Mountains Russell Mountain lookout - This area west of Russell Mountain could be good for a larger ski resort. The pink represents a single lift, similar to anthony lakes. Having a single lift helps increase operation efficiency.
New Johnson creek park - Connected to the spring water trail around 200th and powell. The red lines represent cement trails that bikes can use, the yellow lines repsent potential hiking trails. Bike racks can be installed. Brush may have to be cleared.
2nd new johnson creek park - On 242nd which turns into hogan rd a second new park can be developed that is connected to the springwater trail . The lime green represents parking lots and entrances into the parks. The red represents a cement trail that bikes can use. The purple lines represent a hiking trail primarily along the north side of johnson creek. Bike racks can be built. Brush may have to be cleared.
Hayden Island Development - The west side of hayden island is currentl;y ondveloped and features beaches on both side. The main plain is to develop a residential neighborhood on the west side of the island and create access to the beaches. The light blue line represents the main road throughout the island, it also has a new bridge as part of it that connects to st johns. The yellow line represents a beachfront walkway, a cement path for walkers and bikers to go along the northside of the island and main beach. The red lines represents high rise apartments that can be built. The first floor of the aprtments can be dedicated to shops on the beachfront walkway, and main streets. On the southside of the island the beach is smaller, with a wooded area next to it. The idea is to build high rise apartments spread out throughout the wooded area preserving some of its nature and creating an almost like feel. A few trees will have to be cut down to make room for the buidings, but between the buildings the other trees will be left standing with walkaways going between the buildings similar to a college campus. The red dots represent the apartments in that area. A single road will go through to create access for the residents in that area. The lime green with slashes in the middle of the island represent areas for housing and smaller apartments. The light purple lines represent an area that will be left wooded to create a connect park throughout most of the island, a good path for bikes will be built in the park.
Loyyd Center Food Carts - The square that is on 12th and broadway could be remodeled for food carts. The green represents where food carts could be, if the flower beds were removed. The blue could be a patio for tables, right now it is a small street which would have to be leveled with cement. The pink could either be more food carts or a space for a small farmers market.
North Park Blocks - Will work to expand north park blocks where usps building has been taken out. Possibly have squares rather than parks. Residential buildings can be built in the orange areas. In general, construction should be more focused on residential property in Portland due to low rates of renting commercial property since covid, as companies have been working remotely at higher rates. Possibly a hotel could be built here as well for easy access for those riding the train.
Transportation for Baseball Stadium - Several improvements to increase transportation methods to new mlb baseball stadium can be created. Special max lines that run to stadium can be created, such as making the green line go all the way to stadium, having a blueline from the east go to the stadium instead of hillsboro. New freeway exits and entrances can also be added near stadium. The pink represents a new exit in the first picture, the orange the road that leads to the stadium. The pink represents a new entrance on the second picture. Both of these especially help people on the westside (beaverton) get to and from stadium
Dredge Reed Lake - Reed lake is a lake in southeast portland behind reed college, usually with temperatures around 10 degrees lower in the summer due to it being in a canyon. Although it is topped with sludge, at its bottom there is sand. If it was dredged it could be turned to a sand lake and another great park for the portland area.
Loyyd Center Waterfall - Possibly a water fall similar to singapore airport's, but smaller, could cascade from the roof of the mall over the ice skating rink. On the ice skating rink there will be a glass vase shaped fish tank with giant koi fish that catches the water. Possibly other fish tanks could be installed around the mall with some cool fish. In the winter the waterfall can be designed to make snow, and the fish tank on the rink can be replaced with a christmas tree.
Finish the pearl - The Pearl's development is on the verge of finishing. The red line represents a finished connected boardwalk. Green areas represent priority building. The orange represents a walkway to get to board walk. This along with the buildings where the usps was torn down should finish the pearl development process.
Increased parking for Moda Center and Other Upgrades - Currently there is an employee parking lot on the west side of the Moda Center that is rarely used represented by the green. This could be turned into public parking. The red area is a boardwalk that could be built on the edge of the parking lot so game attendees can hangout on the riverside if they feel. The Orange represents a park the caould be built if we tear down the old granary that is no longer in use. Stairs could be built from the parking lot over the rail road down to the park. Tearing down the granary would also create a view of downtown from moda center entrance if a few trees were also cut down. The purple represents where vira katz Esplandade could be extended, docks would be used similarly to the current one. A ramp could be built down to the dock from parking lot.
New Spring Water Corridor Trail - Just west of 17th and Ochoco st the current spring water trail vears south onto andover pl, a cement trail could be added on the north side of the train tracks between 13th and 17th. Should shortern the trip and decrease confusion of where the trail goes.
Westside Spring Water Trail - To complement the eastside springwater bike trail, the westside could have one two. Starting at beaverton transit center, a trail could go along beaverton creek, potentially all the way out to hillsboro. A couple trails could head west towards Cedar Mills Falls and sylvan area following Johnson creek and cedar mills creek. Docks could be used to stretch across ponds where theere is limited land.
West side SpringWater Trail after full development - If the west side keeps deveoloping, the spring water trail could be exapnded, so trails essentially follow all of the tualitin river water shed.
Johnson Creek Renewal - Blure represents potential new parks on the creek. Red represents a square that could be used for farmers' markets and other events. Pink represents potential new apartments. The green represents a potential area for high rise apartments that will be designed similarly to a park with grass and trees in between apartments, access to creek, limited through trraffic. The orange represents a strip mall facing the park
Salem parks improvement- I have several ideas to improve upon the parks in salem. 1 is adding hiking trails on the island to connect to the peter courtney minto island bridge. Tables and becnhs can be installed around the island so people have a place to sit and eat on their hike. 2 a mill creek waterfront park where the creek enters the willamette. 3 will work to further develop the east side of mill creek at the the afghan-iraq-freedom memorial adding some play structures, soccer fields and possibly better creek access. 4 will work to further improve the river front at riverfront city park, adding more over looks over the river similar to the one that is already there.
