Based off of federal projections, there is around 20 billion in cuts over the next 10 years, or something.1 In order to cover the cuts to medicaid and food stamps the state of Oregon needs around 1 billion a year and rising. To create this funding teachers' pay can be cut by 25-30%. The budget for the Department of Education is currently around 3 billion a year, with around 1.5 billion going to teachers' salaries.2 Teachers currently get paid around $100,000 relative to the average Oregon personal income of $65,000, this should create around 500 million in savings. There may have to be a few other cuts to cover the costs. For example, regulating health care employees' pay could also create funds. Currently, the Oregon government spends around $40 billion3 on health care for the years 2025-2027, if salaries and drug prices were decreased by 5%, this could lead to 1 billion in savings. Healthcare workers in the United States generally get paid around twice the amount relative to other countries.4
